To tell you the truth, nobody really gave a crap until the very end. The united nations stepped in for a while, but they got their es handed to them because they were only a peacekeeping force and weren't supposed to be shooting back. The manager of the hotel was a compionate type and since his wife was part of the ethnic group that was being macred, he took in lots of Tutsi refugees. He himself was of the Hutu, so he got a bit of slack from the Hutu that found the place, and he was allowed to keep his Tutsi "pets". Overall, over 800000 Tutsi were killed before the hotel occupants were evacuated to Refugee camps in Zaire.
