What would be better to rent an apartment of buy a house?

Mi and my fiance are looking to moving out of our parents houses in january..would it be better to buy a home or rent? and i heard theres a discount for first time home buyers is that true? and can you explain alittle about buying a home..we just wanna kow what would be better in the long run buying or renting? thankyou
